For many writing, being an author is a private, soloist practice. But for so many of us, having a community or several is very, very important. Things like social media help with part of that community, conferences and workshops another. But above all I think that community starts by people listening to one another.
Communities help, support each other. More so now than it seems ever before communities of authors need to form. It’s one of the most inclusive and possibly direct ways to bring up the quality for everyone as self-publishing and boutique houses flourish in today’s media consumerism. It’s how we can protect one another from scan artists and vulture imprints. Most importantly, it’s how we can help each other to see many different sides of an issue.
